Denny Hamlin took his second NASCAR Cup Series win in a row in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington on Sunday, a brilliant pitstop and restart earning him an overtime victory.
A late caution caused by a Kyle Larson wreck when he was around 160 laps down put the race into overtime, just after Ryan Blaney had hunted down Tyler Reddick for the lead, with Blaney dropping three places on pit road.
William Byron took dominant victories in Stage 1 and 2 at Darlington on Sunday, leading over 200 laps from the start, the longest period any NASCAR Cup Series driver has ever led from the start of any race at Darlington.
Byron pitted after some of his rivals for the race victory in the final stage, and came off pit road six seconds behind Reddick, unable to make up that time – although the late caution put him back in the mix for the win.
Larson wrecked by himself after just three laps, losing control of his car and hitting the inside wall front-on to bring out an early caution and split the field on tyre strategy.
There were two further cautions in the first stage, the first when Carson Hocevar went around and the second when Hocevar was spun around by William Byron and Rylie Herbst with just a handful of laps remaining.
