Netflix have released a trailer for a new documentary in the vein of their award-winning Drive to Survive series, following the fortunes of nine NASCAR drivers.
'NASCAR: Full Speed' will launch on 30th January, with legend of the sport Dale Earnhardt Jr serving as an executive producer as the streaming giants look to build authenticity into their offering.
Drive to Survive has been credited with helping F1 find a new audience, particularly among younger viewers and in the US, and NASCAR bigwigs will be hoping for a similar explosion in popularity.
NASCAR's popularity overseas has always been relatively limited, but there are hopes that a hit streaming series could open the eyes of the world to the sport and its personalities.
NASCAR Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer Tim Clark told Netflix companion site Tudum: “This is the most competitive form of motorsport on the planet.
"People are going to see it up close, and see the beating and the banging and the aggressiveness of the drivers, but also the skill of the drivers — and what they’re able to do with a race car [driving at] 200 miles an hour, around 38 other race cars, hitting the same spot for 400 miles.”
“We’re badasses,” Trackhouse driver Ross Chastain added. “This sport has a whole garage full of the best mechanics, the best engineers, the best everything. This is it.”
The series will follow nine drivers closely, namely Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Ross Chastain, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Joey Logano, and Tyler Reddick.
