Cal Gaunt is an award-winning journalist who has specialised in numerous fields including current affairs, politics, social media and sport. Cal graduated from News Associates with an NCTJ Diploma in Multimedia Sports Journalism in 2021 and has wound an interesting path on his way to joining GPFans in September 2023.
Cutting his teeth in the regional newspaper game with the Lancashire Telegraph, Cal covered everything from politics to showbiz - interviewing the likes of Liam Gallagher, Michelle Keegan and Sir Keir Starmer along the way. Most notably, his in-depth investigation into racism and homophobia within Lancashire County Cricket Club led to his first front-page exclusive - which was picked up nationally, with credit, by the likes of The Times, BBC Sport and Sky Sports News.
During this period, Cal was further recognised for his outstanding work, receiving the NCTJ Sports Feature Writer of the Year Award in 2022 for his captivating piece: ‘The Breathtaking Tale Of A Fallen Hero And His Boys In Green And Gold’, commissioned and published by Yahoo Sports.
After a year-long stint as Content Editor at It’s Gone Viral, where he gained invaluable editorial experience, Cal dived back into the world of sports journalism with GPFans.
