GPFans F1 Journalist Simmey Hannifin Donaldson is a media professional who has been working in the industry since graduating with a Master’s degree in Multimedia Journalism from Bournemouth University, where he also gained accreditation from the Broadcast Journalism Training Council. Previously, Simmey had studied BSc Sociology at Brunel University London.
Before joining GPFans, Simmey’s experience had largely come in the sphere of football, specifically the EFL, having covered the Championship, League One and League Two for Football League World for two and a half seasons.
As passionate as Simmey is about sport in general, he also enjoys exploring the deeper issues at play beyond just what happens on the pitch or on track. For example, his undergraduate dissertation focused on the role of FC Barcelona in the contemporary pursuit of independence in Catalonia, whilst his Master’s final project explored the concept of sportswashing within the context of the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle United in a remotely-produced audio documentary.
Of course, Simmey is also a huge Formula 1 fan and has been ever since he was a kid. One day, he just so happened to be flicking through the channels and stumbled upon the 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton dramatically clinched his first world championship in the dying seconds of the race. It’s fair to say he was hooked from thereon in.
