Wolff reveals Mercedes' victory plan

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has identified a key area in which the Silver Arrows must improve before it can return to the F1 winner's circle.

The Brackley-based outfit has rebounded spectacularly from a difficult start to the season with the team heading into the summer break on the back of consecutive double-podium results, a run that capped six straight top three appearances.

But the team remains without a win this term, the longest Mercedes has gone since its first victory in 2012.

For seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, it is also his longest run from the start of a campaign without a victory.

But Wolff has explained that although the team has improved its race pace, until it can unlock qualifying speed on a regular basis, wins will remain hard to come by.

"The start of the season wasn't really any good and there is no other way of describing it because if you win the championship in December and then four months on you are not competing with the guys at the front, that is frustrating," said Wolff.

"Since then, we have had a rollercoaster. We have been on the podium at almost every single race.

"We were strong on the Sundays but never quite there in qualifying and the gap was simply too large, so now it is about trying to understand what it is and in the second half of the season, hopefully, increase our qualifying pace and then be able to race for victories."
