It proved to be a memorable day for George Russell as the Mercedes driver claimed the first pole position of his F1 career in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Russell beat Ferrari's Carlos Sainz by just 0.044secs to net the top spot on the grid despite failing to purple any sector as consistency of speed won through.
F1 title hopeful Charles Leclerc was only third quickest in his SF-75 but at least Red Bull championship rival Max Verstappen is seven places behind after the Dutchman encountered a PU issue in Q3.
Verstappen, and team-mate Sergio Perez who starts 11th, have both taken on new PUs for the race, albeit without penalty. Further changes later in the season will, however, lead to grid sanctions.
AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly, meanwhile, who qualified a miserable 19th, has also taken on a new PU but will start from the pitlane as the change was made without approval from the FIA.
