Mercedes confirm French GP upgrades

Toto Wolff has confirmed Mercedes will add more developments to the W13 at the French Grand Prix.

The Silver Arrows have begun to close in on Red Bull and Ferrari in the past two races since a substantial upgrade package was added at Silverstone, with Lewis Hamilton fighting for a podium throughout.

Both Hamilton and George Russell looked on course to challenge for the front row of the grid in Austria last time out, only to crash individually in Q3 - though the pair eventually finished the weekend third and fourth.

But there is no let up in Mercedes' quest to get back to winning ways, with further improvements to be made for the race at Paul Ricard this weekend.

Team principal Wolff explained: "While we were quicker in Austria, we still weren't quick enough to challenge at the front.

"We need to keep chasing those final few tenths and bringing new developments to the cars, including this weekend in France."

Mercedes target French GP podium

Mercedes has fared well at tracks with smoother surfaces - Silverstone being a prime example - and with Paul Ricard boasting the smoothest surface on the calendar, the team is hopeful for a positive result. "Paul Ricard is a very different track and challenge," added Wolff.

"It has smooth tarmac and a wide range of corner types, along with long straights.

"The aim will be to make further inroads on the gap to the front and hopefully be back on the podium."
