Zhou escapes fractures, Albon airlifted to hospital

Alfa Romeo has confirmed Guanyu Zhou is talking at Silverstone's medical centre and has escaped fractures after a scary first corner incident at the British Grand Prix.

George Russell's Mercedes tangled with the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly, being tipped into a spin that ultimately took out Zhou on entry to Abbey.

The Chinese rookie was flipped upside-down, with his roll hoop seemingly failing as it hit the ground.

Zhou skidded across the run-off, hitting the gravel and launching into the catch-fencing and coming to rest between the two safety barriers.

A lengthy extraction commenced due to the awkward position of the Alfa Romeo in relation to the barriers, with Zhou stretchered away to an awaiting ambulance.

The FIA confirmed he was conscious but was being taken to the medical centre for checks.

Alfa Romeo's pit-wall told Valtteri Bottas before the resumption of the race: "Zhou is conscious and talking at the medical centre and has no fractures. Considering the circumstances, he is pretty good."

The FIA later confirmed Zhou had been declared fit and released from the medical centre.

Albon flown to Coventry hospital

Alex Albon was hit hard in the secondary incident as drivers changed direction to avoid the meleé in front.

The Williams driver was also taken to the medical centre but a Williams statement confirmed he had left the circuit for precautionary checks.

"Alex has been transferred by helicopter to Coventry Hospital for precautionary checks following the opening lap incident," the statement read,

"We will provide updates when available."
