Aston Martin end Monaco fear

Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has revealed the team is no longer scared of racing in Monaco after launching its latest upgrades.

Aston Martin headed into last weekend's Spanish GP with a radically redesigned AMR22 that was quickly nicknamed the 'green Red Bull' given its striking similarities to the championship-leading car.

Despite the upgrades failing to yield an improved result in either qualifying or the race in the sweltering temperatures, Krack believes the changes will prove beneficial in Monaco.

“One of the reasons why we have changed the direction, and also why we have ended where we are, is because we had to run super super-stiff and we couldn’t even run really low with the other approach," explained Krack.

“So for Monaco, we are not scared now as we have been maybe a couple of weeks ago.”

Aston Martin "not surprised" by copy comments

In 2020, Aston Martin - then Racing Point - was sanctioned by the FIA for copying Mercedes' brake ducts after revealing a car almost identical to that of the Silver Arrows - the pink Mercedes.

On this occasion, however, the FIA investigated the development of the latest iteration of the AMR22 before it took to the track and confirmed it was satisfied the designs were original IP and not a copy.

Despite this, Red Bull has launched an internal investigation to uncover any potential leak within its operation although the team has conceded it is unable to control the knowledge personnel take within them when switching garages.

Asked if the comments and questions had been a surprise in Spain, Krack added: “No, I am not surprised by it.

"It would be a lie to say we were surprised but for us, the situation is now as it is. The explanations were given and for me, we look forward.

"We have enough to work on our side without getting too distracted by this.”
