Miami Grand Prix weather: Could rain provide US drama?

F1 arrives in the United States for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix this weekend.

Reigning world champion Max Verstappen and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc are locked on two victories apiece after four races, with the Monégasque ahead in the standings.

But after the first wet race of the season at Imola last time out, more drama could be in store this weekend, according to the latest weather forecasts.

Friday and Saturday are expected to provide the hot and sunny weather expected from Florida before the threat of rain begins to increase throughout Sunday.

If this forecast remains true for the weekend, drivers and teams will enter the first race at the Miami Gardens venue slightly blind after dry-running across the first two days.

Miami Grand Prix weather forecast

Friday: Sun and heat expected with the temperature peaking at around 32 degrees [Celsius] just in time for first practice, before the air temperature drops slightly for the second hour of running. Maximum temperature: 32 degrees Chance of rain: 20%

Saturday: Marginally hotter than Friday, drivers can expect more of the baking sunshine in time for qualifying, although the later running schedule should see a suitable drip in temperature for the main session itself. Maximum temperature: 33 degrees Chance of rain: 20%

Sunday: Scattered showers are expected throughout the day, with the 33-degree heat providing a chance for quick drying of the race track. A changeable race could give plenty of on-track drama. Heaviest rainfall is expected between 14:00 and 17:00 local time, with the race slated for a 15:30 start. Maximum temperature: 33 degrees Chance of rain: 50%
