Miami a "spectacular showcase" for F1 - Wolff

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has backed the inaugural Miami Grand Prix to be a "spectacular showcase" of F1.

The Miami International Autodrome will host F1 for the first time this weekend on an all-new layout that looks around the Hard Rock Stadium.

The event is the first of two American races on the calendar this year with the United States Grand Prix in Texas scheduled to take place in October.

"Miami is an exciting new challenge and a complete step into the unknown," said Wolff.

"The track looks demanding, with a real mix of low and high-speed corners, and it's set to be a spectacular showcase for the sport to our growing US fanbase.

"So, we're set for a fantastic event, and we can't wait to see how it all plays out."

Imola a "very difficult weekend"

Mercedes has endured a torrid start to the season with Imola a self-confessed low point after failing to feature in Q3 with either car for the first time since 2012.

Offering a final evaluation of the weekend before switching focus to Miami, Wolff explained: "It was a very difficult weekend for us in Imola.

"George did a great job to finish P4 from an unpromising starting position but with Lewis, we didn't give him the tools or track position to show his true pace."
