Perez – Verdict still out on F1 racing improvements

Sergio Perez has warned those who have already hailed F1’s new regulations a success to wait until the sport visits a track that is notoriously difficult to overtake on before giving a final verdict.

F1 introduced new regulations on car design this year that aimed to improve the show by reducing the trailing wake created by the cars’ aerodynamics and enabling them to follow each other more closely.

The opening races of this season have so far shown promising signs, with far more close contact racing than has seen in the past but Perez believes it is still to early to reach a conclusion.

“I think certainly we are able to follow closer, I think racing has improved,” he said, before adding: “We have had good racing up to now but we have been to circuits that generally have had good racing.”

Perez – Improvements can be made

Perez also believes that the racing dynamics will change over the course of the season, as more teams get to grips with the different traits of the new cars and refine their designs to improve their performance.

He added: “I just feel like we are all learning from that at the moment, nobody is at 100 percent yet, there is still a lot of improvement that will be done and we are all figuring out how to race the best in these conditions.”
