Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack believes the deficiencies of the organisation's new car played a role in Lance Stroll racking up the penalty points in Australia.
Stroll found himself in hot water with new FIA race director Niels Wittich across the team's wretched weekend at Melbourne's Albert Park as he was punished for two separate incidents.
The Canadian collected two points after being found guilty of causing the collision in qualifying with compatriot Nicholas Latifi that destroyed the Williams FW44.
Asked of Krack what was required to prevent a ban, which comes into force when a driver collects 12 points over the previous 12 months, Krack said: "We need to learn how the new race directors are governing things.
"We are learning it a little bit the hard way at the moment but we will keep it under control. We had two points on Saturday, one on Sunday.
"Obviously, when the car is not as you want it then the drivers are trying as much as possible to defend.
"It's a combination of the new ways of governance, but that would be easy to say because if we had a better car then we would not have these issues."
