Schumacher discharged from hospital after frightening qualifying shunt

Mick Schumacher has left hospital following the completion of precautionary checks after his heavy crash during qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Schumacher lost control of his Haas at turn 10 of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit at over 150mph and slammed into a wall before coming to a halt at turn 12.

Although the collision destroyed his Haas VF22, the safety devices fitted to modern F1 machinery combined to protect the German.

Schumacher was taken to the King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital by a medical helicopter for checks but the Haas team has since confirmed: "Mick has been released from the hospital and is back at his hotel."

Schumacher will take no further part in the weekend with the team formally withdrawing his car.

Taking to social media, Schumacher said: "Hi everyone. I just wanted to say that I’m ok.

"Thank you for the kind messages. The car felt great. We’ll come back stronger."
