Aston Martin boss explains "headhunting" process

New Aston Martin team principal Mick Krack has explained how he was 'headhunted' for the role.

Krack had worked for BMW across various disciplines in motorsport before joining Silverstone-based Aston Martin as a replacement for Alpine-bound Otmar Szafnauer.

The appointment is the latest during a staff influx as the team, led by owner Lawrence Stroll, aims to climb up the standings and challenge for titles by mid-decade.

The move means Krack is reunited with Sebastian Vettel, who he worked with as chief engineer during the German's debut with BMW Sauber in 2007.

Discussing his employment during a media briefing including GPFans, Krack said: "I was at Petit Le Mans and caught Covid at Petit Le Mans so I was sitting in my home office for two weeks after testing positive.

"Then I got a call from the headhunting agency where it was more about general things like Formula 1.

"There was no mention initially about Aston Martin or what role, so there were initial conversations and I expressed an interest. The discussions continued at one point it brought a bit more clear what it was about and what was the team.

"I have to be honest, I was flashed by the opportunity that I was offered and then there were several meetings with Martin and Lawrence until we came to a point where we shook hands and said we can do this."
