Seidl "never a fan" of team-to-FIA broadcasts

McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl has revealed he is not a fan of broadcasting team communications with FIA race director Michael Masi.

For the first time during the 2021 season, F1 broadcast content from the pit wall to the race director to provide greater clarity to the in-race decision-making processes.

The system, however, appeared to be taken advantage of by Red Bull and Mercedes whose conversations with Masi were broadcast more often than other teams, notably reaching a head during the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Explaining his opposition to the open broadcasts late last season, Seidl said: "The only reason why it is a debate is that it gets transmitted. Before you didn't hear that stuff and I think that is the big difference.

"To be honest, I was never a fan of broadcasting these communications because there are things going backwards and forwards regarding safety etcetera which I don't think necessarily should always be broadcast. That is only my opinion.

"I don't think that the communication has changed in principle. I would say, in terms of what is going backwards and forwards, it is even a bit more controlled than in the past because everyone knows it gets broadcast."
