Aston Martin on F1 title track with Krack - Whitmarsh

Aston Martin group CEO Martin Whitmarsh believes the appointment of Mike Krack as new team principal brings a dynamic and modern approach to the organisation's bid to become F1 champions.

The former head of BMW's global motorsport operation has taken over the F1 reins from Otmar Szafnauer who parted ways with Aston Martin earlier this month.

Krack brings with him a wealth of experience after previously being in a senior motorsport role with Porsche, 10 years in F1 with Sauber/BMW-Sauber and eight years with BMW overseeing a variety of its racing programmes.

Like Andreas Seidl who has re-energised McLaren, Aston Martin will be seeking the same from Krack as it continues on its five-year mission to success.

“Mike Krack is exactly the right kind of dynamic and modern team principal who, working with our other senior leaders under Lawrence’s [Stroll] and my overall direction, as well as with our ever-growing staff of skilled and committed employees, will deliver the Formula 1 world championship success we at Aston Martin are so determined to achieve," said Whitmarsh.

“Having worked in very senior motorsport positions at both BMW and Porsche, backed by an engineering background in Formula 1 with Sauber, Mike possesses a blend of experience and expertise that makes him the ideal choice for us.

“He works well with drivers, having prioritised that aspect of his role at BMW in recent years, and also with engineers, since he speaks their language.”

Krack's first public engagement as new team boss will be on February 10 when Aston Martin unveils the AMR22 that will challenge in this year's championships.
