Hamilton officially receives Knighthood

Sir Lewis Hamilton has officially been made a Knight Bachelor by the Prince of Wales after being awarded a Knighthood in the Queen's New Year Honours last December.

The seven-time F1 champion has been recognised for his services to motorsport, having been made an MBE in 2009 after his first title triumph.

Hamilton received the Knighthood at Windsor Castle just days after agonisingly missing out on a record-breaking eighth world championship after rival Max Verstappen overtook him on the last lap in controversial circumstances.

Mercedes lodged two protests in the wake of the confusion at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and with both dismissed by the stewards, an intent to appeal was also lodged.

The ceremony was the first appearance Hamilton has made since Sunday's grand prix, with both the Briton and Mercedes keeping counsel whilst the appeal process continues.
