Bottas to make Alfa Romeo debut two days after last race for Mercedes

Valtteri Bottas will start work with new team Alfa Romeo with immediate effect once the curtain comes down on his five-year stint with Mercedes on Sunday.

Bottas will drive for Mercedes for the final time in this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in which almost the sole focus is on team-mate Lewis Hamilton's battle for the F1 title with Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

For Bottas, it is the end of an era during which he has - up until this weekend - secured 10 grand prix wins and 20 pole positions.

But after agreeing to join Alfa Romeo in the summer on a deal for at least two years, the team has agreed to an early release with Mercedes.

With part of the two-day test at the Yas Marina Circuit focusing on Pirelli's new-for-2022 18-inch tyres, Bottas will drive for Alfa Romeo throughout Tuesday.

It will be an opportunity for the Finn to learn team processes and get to know the engineers he will be working with for next season at least.
