The FIA has confirmed Formula 2 driver Enzo Fittipaldi has suffered a fractured heel after a nasty incident at the Saudi Arabian F2 feature race.
Fittipaldi - grandson of former F1 world champion Emerson - collided with the rear of Sauber Academy driver Théo Pourchaire's stalled ART Grand Prix car at the beginning of the race, resulting in a 72g impact and causing a lengthy delay to proceedings.
The FIA advised both drivers were "immediately attended to by emergency and medical crews. The drivers were conscious and extricated by the attending medical crews" and that they had been transferred to hospital.
Fittipaldi's injuries were confirmed in an updated statement that read: "Following transfer to King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital, Jeddah, medical investigations revealed no ongoing issues for Pourchaire, who was discharged from their care that same evening.
"Fittipaldi was found to have a fracture on his right heel and a lesion on his left eyebrow. He spent the night in the ICU for observation and is making good progress.
🇺🇸 Hey guys, I am very grateful that I only broke my heel and have some cuts and bruises. Thank you all for the messages, as well as the FIA and medical staff for taking great care of me. I am very happy that Theo is ok. I will be back on track soon and faster than ever. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/3aLqaEQtgn
