WATCH - F1 mystery guests surprise football's Ballon d'Or awards

Alpine F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon were surprise guests at football's Ballon d'Or awards ceremony.

The ceremony recognises the best individual football players in each calendar year, with Paris Saint-German and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi taking home the men's award for a record seventh time and Alexia Putellas of Barcelona and Spain being awarded the women's honour.

Ahead of the announcements, the Ballon d'Or trophies were delivered by two mystery guests wearing suits and racing helmets, with the reveal being made on-stage. You can watch the moment below.

The FIFA and F1 tie-up continued after former legends of football attended the Qatar Grand Prix last time out to mark a year until the world cup gets underway in the Middle Eastern country.
