United States GP a "second home race" for Williams

Williams head of vehicle performance Dave Robson has labelled the United States Grand Prix as a "second home race" for the team.

American investment firm Dorilton Capital acquired Williams in 2020 and has overseen a recent period of progress from the team with 23 points scored and a return to the podium in Belgium.

After the US GP last year fell victim to the coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming event is the first opportunity for Dorilton to showcase its acquisition on home turf.

"The USA now represents a second home race for us, and we look forward to welcoming our extended Williams family from Dorilton Capital to one of the best Grand Prix venues on the calendar," said Robson.

"Returning to the COTA track for the first time since 2019 is something we are all looking forward to."

The weather has played a significant role in proceedings since the summer break with three races taking place in mixed conditions.

Given the typically unpredictable nature of the weather in Austin, Robson was cautious in predicting how the weekend will pan out.

"The weather in Austin at this time of year can be very varied and we can expect anything from dry hot conditions, to very cold and wet weather," Robson explained.

"Inevitably, the conditions we have on each day will have a significant effect on the tyre performance and we will need to remain flexible until the forecast becomes clear.

"As the 2021 campaign enters its final phase of events, we will have no new upgrades and instead we are focussed on tuning the car and making the most of what we have as we look to defend our championship position."
