AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost believes F1 has optimised the 2022 calendar in the best way that it can despite geographical differences between races.

The record-breaking 23-race calendar has been confirmed spanning with the schedule to be completed in just 36 weeks from March to November.

The earlier finish compared to recent years is to avoid a clash with the football World Cup that will take place in Qatar.

The calendar features two triple-headers and seven double-headers including back to back races in Azerbaijan and Canada, a time difference of eight hours

"To create the calendar is really a difficult topic. It’s not only regarding to the geographical side, to the logistics," said Tost.

"It depends on the different countries, they have other events over there where you can’t come then with a Formula 1 event, or holidays or other things that have to be taken into consideration.

"Therefore, it is quite complicated to make such a calendar and I think that Stefano [Domenicali] and FOM have optimised everything in the best possible way."

Prior to the calendar being officially revealed, Tost claimed personnel unhappy with a 23-race schedule "should go".
