Williams join Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren in landing FIA award

Williams has become the latest F1 team to be awarded the highest level of the FIA’s Environmental Accreditation Programme.

The honour is industry-specific that aims to help motorsport stakeholders to measure and enhance their environmental performance.

Williams now joins Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren in reaching the highest level of certification and follows the announcement this week of the team's commitment to becoming climate positive by 2030 as part of a wide-ranging sustainability strategy.

Williams CEO Jost Capito said: “Formula 1 has the power to inspire millions of people across the globe and has been at the forefront of an incredible amount of advanced technologies.

"We, as an industry, have the power to use our sport as a platform and catalyst for good, helping to tackle the challenges we face as a planet.

"Williams Racing, therefore, welcomes the FIA’s Environmental Accreditation Programme as an incentive to push the envelope on climate action.

"We are proud to have achieved this highest level of accreditation and will continue in our pursuit of ambitious objectives to help raise the baseline of sustainable performance in our industry and beyond.”

FIA president Jean Todt has expressed his delight at Williams' positive actions. He said: "I am pleased to see that the strong commitments and actions made by Williams Racing have brought it to the Three Star level and I congratulate them for this important achievement.

"Pioneering innovations have always been part of motor racing. FIA and Formula 1 have pledged to be net-zero carbon by 2030 and all teams can thus contribute to this strategic objective."
