F1 confirms Monaco Grand Prix changes

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed the Monaco Grand Prix will take place over three days next season.

The weekend is traditionally held over four days in the principality with practice one and two on Thursday, harking back to when the race was run on the bank holiday weekend of Ascension Day.

This is set to change next year however with the provisional calendar setting up a Spain-Monaco double-header.

Whilst a four-day weekend has been achieved in previous seasons with a back-to-back race, the change will alleviate pressure on team logistics.

"Monaco will be in three days, straight away," Domenicali told CNN.

"So Friday, Saturday and Sunday instead of Thursday, hold, and then Saturday and Sunday. That's the change we're going to introduce next year.

In the provisional calendar, the weekend covering July 15-17 was slated as France or Imola whilst the season is expected to end earlier in November.

"The plan is that we are going to have 23 races," added Domenicali.

"We are going to announce the calendar at the world council on October 15 and the idea is to finish earlier than we will finish this year.

Asked if France would be on the calendar, Domenicali simply replied: "Yes."
