Horner - "Nothing unusual" in Albon confidentiality clauses

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has claimed the confidentiality clauses insisted upon by Mercedes in Alex Albon's Williams contact are "nothing unusual".

Albon will return to Formula 1 racing next year with Williams after losing his Red Bull seat to Sergio Perez ahead of the current season.

Prior to a deal being struck, a sticking point had been Albon's connections to Red Bull with Williams' power unit supplier, Mercedes, concerned about the transfer of critical information to it's title-rival.

"I saw the headlines but all contracts, including ours, have confidentiality clauses. There is absolutely nothing unusual in doing that," Horner explained to Sky Sports F1.

"We're just as sensitive about information going one way as others perhaps are at it coming the other so I didn't really understand that."

Albon has spent the current year combining racing in DTM with his duties as Red Bull's reserve driver.

"I was really pleased we were able to help Alex get back on to the grid next year," added Horner.

"Williams has strong aspirations and we’ve retained our relationship with Alex for the future.

"His focus between now and the end of the season is doing the best he can to support our drivers and the Team and help with next year's car.

"It will mean he’ll leave a gap because he has performed such a great role, but we are fortunate we have Sebastien Buemi and Jake Dennis, plus we have young drivers in Jüri Vips and Liam Lawson, so we don't have a shortage of talent to call upon."
