Russell hoping for race resumption to score half points after "frustrating" delay

George Russell declared the rain delay at the Belgian Grand Prix to be "frustrating" and is hoping two racing laps can be completed in order to score half-points for second place.

F1's return from the summer break has currently only completed a formation lap and a race lap behind the safety car due to torrential downpours leading to poor visibility for drivers.

Russell performed heroically in wet conditions in qualifying to secure second on the grid for Williams and is hoping for the chance to score points for his efforts.

"You could just about see behind the safety car doing... I guess I was doing about 140mph but when we get up to 200mph that spray is going to be impossible," Russell told Sky Sports F1 during the delay.

"It was definitely the correct decision to stop but obviously as it currently stands, there wouldn't be a classification which is obviously pretty frustrating for everyone including ourselves.

"One way or another, we need to find a way to get the race started, even if it is for a second and bringing the safety car back out, if we can do two laps then there can at least be a classification and half points awarded.

"It is just a unique situation I guess. You just adapt and crack on. It is such a shame for everybody, the people watching at home, the fans here.

"I saw some Dutch fans with their tops off before the race fully enjoying it and it is obviously just frustrating for everyone here."
