Lando Norris has been cleared to compete in the Belgian Grand Prix following checks at a local hospital in the wake of his qualifying smash.

In treacherous conditions, the McLaren driver crashed heavily through the Eau Rouge-Raidillon complex in Q3 after topping both of the opening two sessions at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

Following the incident, Norris was taken to hospital for a precautionary x-ray due to concerns over a potential injury to his elbow.

McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl confirmed: "Precautionary checks were done in the hospital on his elbow that was hurting a bit.

"He is good and he is cleared to be back racing tomorrow which is great news."

With no time set in the final session, Norris will start at best in 10th position, although with the damage sustained to his MCL35M a pit-lane start is more likely.
