George Russell has insisted he feels "ready to fight for world championships" in F1 as his future remains in the balance.

The Williams driver is under consideration for promotion to Mercedes for 2022 to replace Valtteri Bottas - although the Finn could stay to partner Lewis Hamilton for a sixth season.

The British driver has impressed consistently this season, taking Williams to a Q3 appearance and multiple Q2s as well as breaking his scoring duck with the team in Hungary.

With a decision expected to be made ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix Russell told GPFans Global he will fight with everything he has no matter where he drives next year.

"I do feel ready to fight for world championships and win races," said the 23-year-old.

"I would have loved to come into Formula 1 and be fighting for victories from my very first race.

"Perhaps I'll look back in 10 or 15 years and say this experience at the back end of the field has paid dividends for me in the long run.

"But no matter where I end up next year, no matter what position I'm fighting for, whether that's fighting for championships or fighting just for points, I'll be giving it everything I've got."
