Aston Martin withdraws Vettel Hungarian GP appeal

Aston Martin has withdrawn its appeal against Sebastian Vettel's Hungarian Grand Prix disqualification.

Vettel finished the Hungarian race second to Esteban Ocon but was subsequently disqualified after only a 0.3-litre fuel sample could be extracted from his car in post-race scrutineering.

As per the regulations, one litre must remain in the car as a sample at the end of a race.

The team instigated a right to review bid which the FIA dismissed after the team provided evidence of a leak in the fuel system.

As there is no exception in the regulations to allow for this, the evidence was deemed "not relevant".

Following the decision, Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer said the team would "consider our position" with regard to a full appeal.

Via social media, the team stated: "Having considered our position and having noted the FIA stewards’ verdict that there was clear new evidence of a fuel system failure, we have nonetheless withdrawn our appeal on the basis that we believe doing so outweighs the benefits of it being heard."
