Miami GP set for May running as 2022 calendar takes shape

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has revealed the Miami Grand Prix will be contested in May 2022.

Although there remains 12 races of the planned 2021 season, Domenicali has confirmed next season's calendar is close to completion.

Citing May as the likely date for the new Miami Grand Prix, this indicates the race could precede the Canadian Grand Prix which traditionally takes place on the second weekend of June.

“We are less than halfway through the 2021 season, but planning 2022 has been ongoing for some time," said Domenicali in a call with Wall Street investors.

"There is a high demand of venues to make the 2022 calendar and we hope to announce the provisional calendar in September.

“We can confirm that the much anticipated Miami Grand Prix will happen in the first half of May. Demand for these tickets is high, even though sales have not officially started."

For 2023, the venue for the Russian Grand Prix will shift with F1 moving from the Sochi Autodrom to Igora Drive, a circuit located near to Saint Petersburg.

“We also look forward to our move to Saint Petersburg for the Russian Grand Prix, beginning in 2023," Domenicali added.

"This iconic city will provide a stunning backdrop for Formula 1."
