Aston Martin to consider "full appeal" after FIA denies Vettel disqualification review

Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer has stated the team will now "consider our position" with regard to a "full appeal" after the FIA denied a review of Sebastian Vettel's disqualification.

Vettel was disqualified from the Hungarian Grand Prix after finishing second to Esteban Ocon when only 0.3-litres of fuel could be extracted from his car in post-race scrutineering.

As per the regulations, each car is required to provide a one-litre sample.

Proof of a fuel leak somewhere in the fuel system, satisfied the requirement of "new" evidence, but as the regulations "unequivocally call for a remaining amount of one litre [of fuel] and does not allow any exceptions under which circumstances or for what reasons", it was deemed "not relevant".

“Sebastian drove brilliantly in Hungary and we are pleased to have been given the opportunity to show significant new evidence that we discovered since the race," said Szafnauer.

"We felt that the evidence we presented was relevant and demonstrated to the FIA that he should have been reinstated following his disqualification.

"Unfortunately, the FIA took a different view and, despite the fact that that the accuracy of our new evidence was not contested, Sebastian’s disqualification has been upheld on the basis that the new evidence was not deemed ‘relevant’.

"That is disappointing, and we will now consider our position in respect of the full appeal process.”
