FIA supportive of post-race "open-door policy" to stewards

Formula 1 race director Michael Masi has revealed the FIA stewards have back his stance of an "open-door policy" after races reach a conclusion.

In order to visit the stewards' office, a driver must either be summoned or have had a request granted in advance.

At the British Grand Prix, following the lap one incident involving Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, both Toto Wolff and Christian Horner made visits without prior authorisation.

Masi has since delivered a threat of sanctions for any future unauthorised visits but revealed the stewards to be "more than happy" to receive post-race requests.

"I think that happens after the race or after the session and if a team wants to request to come and see the stewards, they certainly can make a request," said Masi.

"If they want to discuss something, I stand by the point of having an open-door policy as do the stewards.

"They are more than happy to have a chat as I am."

Although teams are capable of contacting Masi directly during a race, they are unable to communicate directly with the stewards.

Of the recently issued email, Masi believes it has been received well by the teams.

"We do a review after each event and have a look at what has happened, what hasn't happened, what can be improved," Masi explained.

"It was determined and also, speaking with a number of different teams, were fully supportive that the judicial office during on-field play, people shouldn't be able to go there in the middle of the race."
