Verstappen bags unique F1 record

Max Verstappen's lap-one exit from Sunday's British Grand Prix secured the Red Bull driver with an unwanted but unique F1 record.

At Silverstone, Formula 1 conducted its first trial of the new sprint weekend format, with qualifying on Friday evening followed the day after by a 17-lap race to decide pole position for the grand prix.

With points on offer for the top three - three for first, two for the runner-up and one for third - Red Bull driver Verstappen bagged the maximum haul and top spot on the grid.

But after his lap-one crash on Sunday following his collision with Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, the Dutchman is now in the record books as the only driver to score points without completing a single lap of a grand prix.

Hamilton may have a significant number of records to his name, but this is one he is unlikely to equal during his career.

Verstappen also became the second pole-sitting driver to fail to complete a lap this year after Charles Leclerc was unable to take part in the Monaco Grand Prix.

Sunday's race also saw Lando Norris break an all-time McLaren record and the experimental weekend, naturally, threw up a large number of other statistics.

All those can be viewed here.
