F1 reveals "special" celebration for sprint qualifying top three

F1 has revealed how drivers will be able to celebrate a podium finish in the inaugural sprint qualifying event at the British Grand Prix.

Unlike in the main race to be held on Sunday, the top three in Saturday's 100km sprint will not be credited with a podium to their records, meaning there will be no official podium ceremony.

However, when the top three drivers have stepped out of their cars they will be taken on a victory parade around the circuit where they will be presented with uniquely designed wreaths in a hark back to F1's history.

F1 director of event spectacle Alex Molina said: “F1 Sprint is a brand-new and exciting format, so we felt it was important to come up with a post-race moment that was equally special.

“The moment recognises the seven decades of history in the sport and combines it with a modern twist – very similar to the Sprint itself.”
