Sebastian Vettel has conceded he "wouldn't mind having some wet running" at the Styrian Grand Prix this weekend.

Aston Martin has gathered itself after a difficult start to life in F1, taking 35 points across the previous three races to sit just behind AlphaTauri in the constructors' standings.

Despite finishing sixth quickest in Friday practice at the Red Bull Ring, Vettel revealed the team was struggling on high-fuel runs and was hoping for a wet weekend.

"The one-lap pace looked a bit better today but the long-run pace we still need to do a bit of work," said the four-time champion.

"Obviously good that we know what we are lacking but not so easy to change that so we will see but it is nice to be here. I was expecting some rain, to be honest, but it didn't come. Maybe we get some tomorrow.

"It is what it is. It is summertime and there are mountains around. It is obviously quite hot so you have local showers.

"In the end, we just need to make sure we are on the right tyre at the right time. I think it is very difficult, as we saw today, to make predictions.

"I wouldn't mind having some wet running. I don't think we have had much yet but it would be nice to get some."

Aston Martin needs "a bit of everything" to improve

With Vettel concerned about the overall pace of the AMR21 over a long run, Aston Martin may well be in a tussle with the lower reaches of the top 10 come Sunday.

Asked where the team needed to find improvement, the German replied: "It is a bit of everything.

"I think we weren't as quick as we would like so it is a bit hard to get everything at once but I will pass it onto the engineers and we will see what we get."
