Haas to pay special tribute to colleague on Portuguese GP cars

Haas is to pay a special tribute on its cars at this weekend's Portuguese Grand Prix to colleague Martin Shepherd following his recent passing at the age of just 24.

Almost two years ago Shepherd, who served as a garage technician with the team, was involved in a serious motorbike accident on his way home from work.

Although Shepherd survived, he sustained extensive physical injuries and severe trauma to his brain, requiring life-saving surgery.

Despite physically recovering following three months in intensive care, the trauma to Shepherd's brain resulted in him being in a "prolonged disorder of consciousness".

A crowdfunding page led to significant funds being raised to help with his care and treatment. Shepherd sadly lost his brave fight for survival earlier this month.

As a mark of respect, the cars driven by Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin will carry the touching words 'In loving memory of Martin Shepherd our team-mate and our friend 1996-2021' on the nose of the VF-21.

The team members in Portimão will also wear black armbands across the weekend.
