Tsunoda's AlphaTauri undergoes complete power unit change

Yuki Tsunoda's AlphaTauri has undergone a complete power unit change following his crash in qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.

Tsunoda was left to apologise after losing control of his AT02 at the Variante Alta on his first flying lap in Q1, bringing a halt to the session after causing extensive damage to the rear of the car after hitting the tyre barriers.

Tsunoda claimed he was "too excited", resulting in "a silly mistake", forcing his team into making extensive repairs given the damage, and a back-of-the-grid start at a circuit where it is notoriously difficult to overtake.

The FIA has confirmed that AlphaTauri has changed the internal combustion engine, turbocharger, MGU-H, MGU-K, energy store, control electronics, as well as the exhaust system, all of which are within the regulations.

The car has also received a new gearbox, and while a breach of the rules and carrying it with a five-place grid penalty, the punishment is naturally moot given Tsunoda's starting grid slot.
