Motorsport is undeniably a male-dominated industry and nowhere is this more obvious than in Formula 1 with only a handful of women to have driven in the sport.
Only two have qualified for races, while just three more attempted to qualify. Since the fourth race of 1992, no female has held a race seat in the sport.
Several drivers have held positions as test or reserve drivers, but with the W Series joining the F1 support bill at eight races this year, now is an appropriate moment to look back at those trailblazing women that have attempted to shatter the glass ceiling.
