Norris to play "key role" in new McLaren in-game collaboration

McLaren has announced a new partnership with video game developer and publisher Garena, with driver Lando Norris set to play a "key role" in the new partnership.

Norris was one of a number of drivers to demonstrate his love of online gaming and sim racing in the lockdown before last year's Formula 1 season began in July.

Entering into a partnership with Garena, the company that most recently published the 'Call of Duty' and 'FIFA' mobile games, McLaren announced the deal would see an "upcoming in-game collaboration".

Mark Waller, the chief commercial officer of McLaren Racing, said: “2020 was a year that brought gaming to the forefront for many around the world.

"Both McLaren and Garena have a track record of creating engaging content for the gaming community.

"We are delighted to be working together to further our gaming capabilities and provide captivating content for our fan base around the world.”

Confirming "the partnership is set to come to life for players towards the middle of 2021" McLaren teased "further details will be shared in the coming months".

Vice president, strategic partnerships of Garena, Jason Ng added: “McLaren is one of the most successful sports brands in motorsport. We are glad to be able to work with some of the best minds in the industry through this partnership.”
