Former Suzuki boss Brivio joins Alpine as racing director

Alpine has announced former Suzuki team manager Davide Brivio will join the team as its new racing director.

Alpine is undergoing a leadership reshuffle as the team transitions from Renault into its new guise after the departure of Cyril Abiteboul from the team principal role.

Brivio, whos "role and responsibilities will be announced in the coming weeks", will report directly to new Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi.

The 56-year-old joins Alpine after leading Suzuki to the first MotoGP teams' title in its history with rider Joan Mir securing the marque its first riders' title since Kenny Roberts, Jr took the crown in 2000.

Upon the announcement of his departure from Suzuki at the beginning of January, Brivio ending a 20-year career in the MotoGP paddock and an eight-year relationship with the Japanese manufacturer, the Italian spoke of his motivation for a new challenge.

"I feel a lot of motivation for this new challenge, which was the key when I had to decide between renewing my contract with Suzuki or starting a completely new experience," he said.

“Achieving a MotoGP title is something that will remain in the Suzuki history books and it will always have a special place in my life memories."

Via a press release, Alpine said: "Davide joins Alpine F1 Team with a wealth of experience and success following more than 20 years in the MotoGP World Championship, most recently sealing the World Championship crown for rider Joan Mir, and the Teams’ Championship title for his former team.

We look forward to welcoming Davide as we start the next stage of our Formula 1 journey."
