Steiner facing the reality 2021 will be another "difficult" year for Haas

Guenther Steiner is expecting 2021 to be another "difficult" campaign for Haas after the team endured its worst season in Formula 1 this year.

Following a stunning high of finishing fifth in the constructors' championship in its third year in the sport in 2017, Haas has slumped to ninth the past two seasons, scoring a miserable three points throughout 2020.

The team now heads into its seventh season knowing its car will predominantly be a carryover from this year after F1 pushed back new aerodynamic regulations to 2022 due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Steiner warned: “I know it will be another difficult one, it’s just how difficult it is. That I don’t know yet.

"This is what we need to find out and need to work on that, when we find out, what we can do about it.

"But there are a lot of factors which I have no influence on. They are out of my control and the factors we speak about here, I hope they get better."

For 2021, Haas will run an all-new line-up of rookie drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin after deciding not to retain the partnership of Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean for a fifth year.

While accepting Haas has plenty of work to do to improve, Steiner hopes Ferrari will deliver on its promises of a stronger power unit for the coming season after its less than impressive offering in 2020.

“Obviously, we need some work on our side, a lot of work, and we will be pushing and doing our best in the short time we have got," added Steiner.

"But that is the only thing I can do at the moment and hopefully someone else adds something to the party as well.”
