Norris issues apology to Hamilton and Stroll

Lando Norris has issued a heartfelt apology to Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll in the wake of comments made following Sunday's Portuguese Grand Prix

Norris finished a frustrating 13th at the end of the event in Portimão following a mid-race collision with Stroll which caused damage to his McLaren.

While the immediate reaction over the team radio was to call Stroll a highly-derogatory term, post-race he continued to vent his anger, describing the Canadian as someone who crashes a lot, and who never learns.

Norris also failed to offer due respect to Hamilton following his fellow Briton's achievement in securing a 92nd career victory and becoming the most successful driver in the sport's history in terms of wins.

"I'm happy for him, nothing more," said Norris at the time. "It doesn't mean anything to me.

"He's in a car that should win every race basically. He has to beat one or two other drivers, that's it. Fair play to him, he's still doing the job he has to do, but just another win for him."

On reflection, Norris has now recognised his comments were ill-chosen.

Via social media, the 20-year-old has apologised. He said: "I owe an apology. I’ve been stupid and careless with some things I’ve said lately in media and interviews, and haven’t shown the respect I should have to certain people.

"I’m not that kind of person, so know I should apologise to them but also everyone reading/listening. Sorry."
