Albon slated for "unprofessional" move by Kvyat

AlphaTauri driver Daniil Kvyat has slated Alex Albon following his "unprofessional" manoeuvre after a collision which ruined his chance of points at the Eifel Grand Prix.

At the end of lap 16 at the Nürburgring, Kvyat cut across the kerb at the turn 13-14 chicane at the end of a virtual safety car period, allowing Albon to move alongside into the final corner.

The Red Bull driver, however, misjudged the gap to the Russian and moved across in order to prepare for the corner, tangling with the sister car and dislodging Kvyat's front wing.

Kvyat, who had been on an impressive streak of form before the weekend, then had to complete a full lap of the circuit with a damaged car, ruling out any possibility of scoring for the fourth consecutive race.

A fuming Kvyat, who finished 15th and last of those classified, was highly critical of the move afterwards as he said: "I didn’t understand his manoeuvre. What was he doing?

"I think it was quite unprofessional of him and very poor judgment. I wouldn’t expect that from a driver of his level who has been racing for so long.

“The race was pretty much ruined from then on. I had to do the whole lap very slow with the damaged front wing.

"The wing, as a consequence, went under the floor and damaged the whole floor and brake cooling, and the race from there was really a struggle.

'The car was massively down on downforce and I was just really hoping for rain or something really strange to happen.”

Kvyat's team-mate Pierre Gasly, meanwhile, had a contrasting race, finishing sixth to score points for the fifth time from his last six races.

The Frenchman revealed how the race "was really fun" and a stark contrast to the team's problematic Saturday running.

"I had a lot of battles with the guys, some defence and some attack," said Gasly.

"There was a bit of everything so, to be honest, I am pretty happy after Saturday's struggles with sixth position, to grab all these points. The team can be pretty pleased with that."
