Schumacher ready for Nurburgring FP1 after Fiorano Ferrari test

Mick Schumacher says he feels ready for his Formula 1 debut after testing the 2018 Ferrari at Fiorano.

F2 championship leader Schumacher completed a test in the Ferrari SF71H ahead of his FP1 appearance with Alfa Romeo at the Nürburgring.

The son of seven time world champion Michael, Schumacher tops the drivers' standings in F1 with just four races remaining and has been heavily linked with a seat at Alfa Romeo for the 2021 season.

Focussing on the task at hand and his FP1 outing, Schumacher said: "I think it is very useful and I have to say very much thank you for Ferrari for this opportunity. It will give me the opportunity to just get another step closer to how the car behaves.

"Now I have a very clear view of how I have to drive the car and I already have a step closer to how it will be in the Nürburgring.

"It does give me more confidence to arrive at the Nürburgring and know what I have to do."

Not only is Schumacher excited to be making his debut in front of his home fans, but also to get to know some of the mechanics working at Alfa Romeo who previously worked with his father.

"Obviously I am looking forward to FP1 at the Nürburgring in front of the home crowd for the first time in FP1," he added.

"I think it is something very special and to do it with Alfa is very nice. We have a few people in Alfa who have worked with my Dad before so also that kind of gives me the opportunity to get to know them better and also understand their way of working as I have done already in Bahrain one year ago."

Callum Ilott and Robert Shwartzman also spent time in the SF71H with the former also contesting FP1 at the Nürburgring for Haas.

Shwartzman will get an outing in FP1, but will have to wait until the season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix where, like Schumacher, he will drive in Alfa Romeo colours.
