Perez accuses Racing Point of 'hiding things' ahead of split

Sergio Perez has accused Racing Point personnel of 'hiding things' from him since it was revealed he would be replaced by Sebastian Vettel for next season.

The team, that is to be rebranded as Aston Martin from 2021, announced the swap ahead of the previous race at Mugello, leaving Perez searching for options to keep his Formula 1 career alive.

But with the team still in the hunt for a best constructors' championship finish of third, Perez has urged everyone to be "as transparent as possible" to ensure it can remain highly competitive.

"Since the news came out, some people inside the team tend to hide things," claimed Perez. "I don't think it is great.

"At the moment, we need to be as transparent as possible to make sure we achieve our goals and make sure we score as many points as we possibly can.

"I think everyone is focusing on the eight races ahead. It is going to be so crucial that we deliver every single point, it is very important for the constructors' championship.

"We can still have the best season in our history if we can finish third. I think we will all be disappointed if we don't get that third place in the constructors' championship."

In what appears to be becoming an acrimonious split between the driver-team combination that have raced together for seven years, Perez reportedly found out about his release in Italy as he could overhear a conversation involving owner Lawrence Stroll.

When asked whether he could confirm or deny the reports, the Mexican could not hide his discontent at the episode.

"I am pretty disappointed, to be honest, that such things have come out from the team or something," he said.

"I think those things have to remain between the team and myself and I won't be giving any information at all because it is something that has to be kept internal."
