Ferrari upgrades "will not change the big picture" in Russia - Binotto

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has played down expectations of the upgrade package being run in Russia suggesting they "not change the big picture".

After failing to score points at both the Italian and Belgian Grands Prix, Ferrari managed to guide both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel to top ten finishes at Mugello as the team celebrated its 1000th Grand Prix.

However, with only 12 cars finishing the race, the result failed to mask the deficiencies of the SF1000.

Upgrades will be run at Sochi for the upcoming Russian Grand Prix, but Binotto has warned fans not to expect huge levels of improvement.

"There will be small upgrades," Binotto said. "This will not change the big picture. I think we are, at the moment, out of pace in the race, and we are somehow wearing too much the tyres.

"These upgrades will not be the ones that address it. I think on our side we need to review the projects, with the view of 2021. I think it will take some more time to do it."

Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri acknowledged the team would be in it for the long haul as it tries to regain its position in the sport.

"We will take time," he said.

"I'm hoping with a bit more flexibility in the regs next year we can at least step it up from where we are. Mercedes, hats off to them.

"They have done an incredible job and we will see in 2022 with the new regs whether it creates a reset."
