AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly has revealed to receiving a call from the team's former race winner Sebastian Vettel congratulating him on his Italian Grand Prix victory.
Prior to Gasly's triumph, Vettel had been the team's only victor back in 2008 when it was known as Toro Rosso - and also at Monza - before moving on to Red Bull the following year.
It remains to be seen whether Gasly will follow in Vettel's footsteps and reclaim his place back at Red Bull for next season after being demoted last summer following a tough first half of the season in 2019.
Asked whether Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko or team principal Christian Horner had been in contact, and his chances on a return to the team, he replied: "At the moment, we didn’t really have time to talk about all this.
"Helmut congratulated me in Monza, he sent me a text, similar for Christian. They were both really happy with my success.
"On what it’s going to change for the future, I didn’t really think about all this. I didn’t discuss anything with them."
Revealing then Vettel's call, Gasly added: "At Toro Rosso, as Seb mentioned to me on Monday when he called me, [we are] the only two to have won with this team.
"He won in 2008 and went to Red Bull to win four championships, as we know. I’m really happy to have joined him in this winner club for this team.
"We’ll see what opportunities there will be in the future. At the moment, I just want to take this time to celebrate with AlphaTauri, with this team."
After standing on the podium twice in the past 10 months since his demotion, Gasly also revealed a moment he had the morning after his triumph, waking up and seeing the winners' trophy from the Italian Grand Prix.
"I had my morning coffee like every morning but I just had that P1 trophy standing in my living room," added Gasly. "I could see it was there, it was real, [and that] everything that happened in the past 24 hours really happened.
"It was standing next to the Brazilian [Grand Prix P2] trophy. It was a nice feeling but I must say, a couple of minutes after that I was already on the phone.
"[I had] a lot of commitments but the Monday morning feeling was one of the best feelings I’ve had starting a week so it was a pretty nice one."
