Grosjean not taking blame for Haas struggles - 'No one would win in this car'

Romain Grosjean has refused to take responsibility for Haas' poor performance this season as he believes no driver could win in the team's current car.

The Frenchman is one of four drivers yet to score a point this year as Haas' struggles have continued from last campaign when it suffered its worst season since entering Formula 1 in 2016.

After what Grosjean dubbed the worst race of his career in last month's Spanish Grand Prix, during which he was lapped twice en route to finishing last, he and team-mate Kevin Magnussen suffered further woes last weekend in Belgium where they both took the chequered flag in the bottom three.

Asked whether he was frustrated to be fighting for his future in the under-performing VF-20, Grosjean said: "I think the best you can do is to do the best you can with your car.

"It’s not like running the 100 metres where everyone starts on the same line. At the moment, someone is starting on the 40-metre line, some on the 60, some on the 180-metre line!

"We’re more starting at the back and again, the best we can do is to help the team improve."

With 11 podium finishes between them, Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen still insist they are happy with their personal performances within the context of their car's pace, which would tax even the likes of Lewis Hamilton.

"Some years I’m not so proud about my season," added Grosjean. "2018, obviously the first half I wasn’t happy with myself.

"This year, when I look at it I’d say I’m doing a good job. That’s really what matters to me.

"Yes, we’re not fighting for podiums, yes, we’re not fighting for wins, but no-one would with our car. So that’s alright."
