Boring for drivers, great for fans: Perez wants more races like the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix

Sergio Perez hopes Pirelli continues to bring softer tyres compounds to races despite the protestations of the drivers.

Perez watched both the British and 70th Anniversary Grands Prix from his Milton Keynes hotel room while self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.

Labelling the first race as "predictable", the Mexican found the 70th Anniversary race to be far more interesting viewing.

The Racing Point driver said: “I think, when you compare the first Silverstone to the second race, I’m sure for the drivers side it was very boring with the second race all happening with the tyres, but that was great to watch the race on television because [normally] you turn on the TV and you know who is going to win.

“All of a sudden everything changes very fast, and also I think [those are] the races that as a fan keeps you into the TV.

“So I think mixing up more with the tyres and that kind of stuff can make the racing better.

“Unfortunately, it is what you’ve got to do because otherwise it’s all predictable and that makes it very boring."

Team-mate Lance Stroll agreed that F1 is too "car dominated", adding, "I think that is something we want to see, closer racing between all the teams."
